After much uncertainty, in late 2005 BMW confirmed that Villeneuve would race for BMW Sauber in 2006. He is pictured here at the British Grand Prix where he came 8th, just below his BMW team mate Nick Heidfield. Jacques said to the press after the race: “Nico Rosberg got me because at the start into turn one Juan Pablo Montoya and myself crashed in what was a racing incident. I was on the inside and he was following another car on the outside. He came across the track, took his line but couldn’t see I was there. I locked my wheels and ran into him, but luckily there was no damage.  More Details »

In 1995, aged 24, Jacques won the Indianapolis 500 (running 505 miles due to a 2-lap penalty) on his way to winning the entire championship. Villeneuve was the last Indycar champion to win the title before the 1996 CART/IRL split created two rival series. As such his achievements perhaps carry greater weight. As a result of his success racing in the United States, Villeneuve attracted the attentions of Frank Williams who tested him in 1995 with a view to signing him. He is now the winner of Formula One™ (1997) and Champ Car championships and the Indianapolis 500, one of only three drivers to accomplish all three feats (the others being Emerson Fittipaldi and Mario Andretti). More Details »
